I love this recipe because it checks all the boxes! It is delicious. It is healthy. It is filling. It is quick + easy. It’s everything you want for a quick weeknight meal that the family will absolutely love. It is great served over rice, with your choice of vegetables on the side. I also love drizzling spicy mayo on top, really adds a nice touch to the salmon. See below for more ideas on what you can serve honey garlic salmon fillets with.
My favourite part of this recipe is that I most likely always have the ingredients on hand. I always have honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and olive oil in my kitchen. And salmon fillets, I usually buy weekly. So this is the perfect meal for when you’re stumped and have no idea what to quickly put together for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients Needed
Here is a list of the simple ingredients you will need for this salmon recipe!
Salmon fillet: this recipe calls for salmon fillets with the skin on. The fillets ensure a perfect, fleshy portion of salmon without the bones! You can cut the salmon into fillets yourself, and you can choose how small or big you want each portion to be.
Honey: adds the perfect sweetness in this sweet/savoury dish. Honey also helps with caramelization while baking and helps create the beautiful sauce.
Soy sauce: adds flavour and colour. It is also the reason we don’t need added salt in this recipe. Soy sauce also helps create the sauce.
Ginger + garlic: these are the essential aromatics and helps pack in flavour.
Extra-virgin olive oil: adds a hint of flavour, helps create the sauce, and prevents the salmon fillets from sticking/burning.
Sesame oil: adds the perfect hint of nuttiness that goes so well with all the other marinade ingredients. If you really didn’t want to use sesame oil, you don’t have to. I personally love the taste it adds.
Green onions + sesame seeds: these are optional (garnish), but they definitely add another level to this delicious honey garlic salmon meal.
How to Make Honey Ginger Salmon
This Honey Ginger Soy Salmon recipe is so quick and easy, you’ll have your meal ready in less than 30 minutes. I love making this for a quick lunch when I don’t have much time! Follow these simple instructions for this delicious honey garlic salmon recipe.
Prepare the salmon by slicing it into smaller portions. I cut mine into 2 larger portions. If you have kids, you can cut them into smaller portions. You can even leave it in one piece if you prefer.

In a bowl or ziploc bag, make the marinade by mixing together the honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, olive oil, and sesame oil.

Place the salmon fillets into the marinade and gently coat the salmon in the mixture. If using a bowl, use your hands to rub the mixture into the salmon. If using a ziploc bag, seal it and gently toss the fillets inside the bag. Place the bowl/bag in the fridge and allow to marinate for at least 15 minutes. If needed, you can marinate up to 4 hours.

When the salmon is almost finished marinating, preheat the oven to 375F. You can use parchment paper or foil to line a baking dish or use a non stick dish. Place the salmon in the prepared baking dish and pour the remaining marinade sauce over the salmon.

Bake the salmon for 18-25 minutes, depending on how thick/big your fillets are. Halfway through the cook time, spoon the sauce from the baking dish over the fillets. The internal temperature of the salmon should be 145F when fully cooked. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Tips
- Using fresh, quality salmon that’s preferably wild-caught will result in the best salmon meal. Not only will it be delicious, but it’s also more nutritious.
- Serve your finished meal with a drizzle of spicy mayo. I used this recipe and it was so good!
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the cooked salmon, before serving, for a fresh and tangy twist. This complements the sweet-savoury flavour of the sauce nicely.
- If you have leftovers, flake the salmon fillets over a big, green salad for a really healthy and nutritious (quick + easy too) lunch.
- Keep the skin on when cooking. The skin will help keep the salmon together, instead of breaking apart. It also helps prevent the fish from drying out.
- For a bit more crisp on the top, finish off the salmon with a quick broil in the oven for 1 or 2 minutes.
- If you want a little spice in this recipe, add red chili flakes.
What to Serve with Salmon Fillets
These honey soy salmon fillets are so mouthwatering, quick, and easy! Best of all, they go so good with many things. Here’s some ideas:
- Jasmine rice, wild rice, couscous, noodles, or quinoa
- Potatoes, smashed, mashed, or roasted
- Broccoli, green beans, asparagus, sliced cucumber, corn, other roasted vegetables
- Crusty bread
- Salad

Storage
Make sure salmon is at room temperature before storing. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in microwave or stovetop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can use frozen salmon. You will first need to thaw the salmon out completely and then pat dry with a paper towel. Follow the instructions as normal.
You can prepare the salmon 4 hours in advance (marinate it) and then cook it. I wouldn’t recommend marinating for any longer than that because the salmon will begin to break down.

Ingredients
Instructions
-
In a bowl or ziploc bag, mix together the honey, soy sauce, grated ginger + garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, and sesame oil.Â
-
Add the salmon fillets into the marinade and mix gently to coat the salmon well.Â
-
Place the salmon in the fridge and allow to marinate for 15-30 minutes.Â
-
While the salmon is marinating, preheat the oven to 375F and line a baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil. A baking dish that is smaller in size that fits the salmon fillets without crowding is perfect. This will prevent the sauce from drying out and result in more juicy fillets.Â

Place the marinated salmon fillets onto the lined baking dish with some space between each fillet. Pour the remaining sauce over the fillets.Â
-
Place the salmon into the preheated oven and bake for 18-25 minutes, depending on how thick the fillets are. The internal temperature of the salmon should be 145F when fully cooked.Â
-
(Halfway through cooking, spoon the sauce from the baking dish over the salmon.)
-
Remove the baking dish from the oven and allow the salmon to rest for 5 minutes.Â
-
Serve with rice and your choice of vegetables. Garnish with sliced green onion and sesame seeds. Also tastes amazing with a drizzle of spicy mayo!Â
